1.
I am a poor wayfaring stranger traveling through this world of woe.
And there's no sickness, no toil or danger in that bright land to which I
go
I'm going there to meet my father. I'm going there, no more to roam.
I'm only going over Jordan. I'm only going over home.
2
I know dark clouds will gather o'er me. I know the way is long and steep.*
But beauteous fields lie just before me where souls redeemed, their vigil
keep.
I'm going there to see my mother. She said she'd meet me when I come.
I'm only going over Jordan. I'm only going over home.
3.
I want to wear that crown of glory when I get to that promised land.
I want to sing salvation's story in concert with that blood-washed band.
I'm going there to meet my savior. To sing his praises ever more.
I'm only going over Jordan. I'm only going over home.
*Actually, the way is "...rough and steep". I sang "long" by accident as I recorded it. I kinda liked it that way, so I kept it. If the author wants to sue me, I plead no contest.
